【摘要】:TestMethod8212;Itwasdeterminedthroughfieldtestingthatintakevalvedepositscouldadverselyaffectthedriveabilityofcertainautomobiles.SouthwestResearchInstituteandBMWofNorthAmerica(BMWNA)jointlyconductedtestingtodevelopthistestmethodtodetermineanunleadedautomotivespark-ignitionenginefuel''spropensitytoformintakevalvedeposits.Thistestingconcludedthatifanautomotivespark-ignitionenginefuelcouldkeepintakevalvedepositsatorbelowacertainaverageweightpervalveattheendofmileageaccumulation,thenthatautomotivespark-ignitionenginefuelcouldbeusedintheBMWvehicle-enginecombinationforaspecifiedperiodwithoutintakevalvedepositscausingdriveabilitydegradation.Minimizingintakevalvedepositsmaybenecessarytomaintainvehicledriveabilityandtailpipeemissionscontrol.StateandFederalLegislativeandRegulatoryAction8212;LegislativeactivityandrulemakingprimarilybyCaliforniaAirResourcesBoardandtheEnvironmentalProtectionAgencynecessitatetheacceptanceofastandardizedtestmethodtoevaluatetheintakesystemdepositformingtendencyofanautomotivespark-ignitionenginefuel.RelevanceofResults8212;Theoperatingconditionsanddesignoftheengineandvehicleusedinthistestmethodarenotrepresentativeofallmodernautomobiles.Thesefactorsshallbeconsideredwheninterpretingtestresults.TestValidity:ProceduralCompliance8212;Thetestresultsarenotconsideredvalidunlessthetestiscompletedincompliancewithallrequirementsofthistestmethod.DeviationsfromtheparameterlimitspresentedinSections10and11willresultinaninvalidtest.Engineeringjudgmentshallbeappliedduringconductofthetestmethodwhenassessinganyanomaliestoensurevalidityofthetestresults.VehicleCompliance8212;AtestisnotconsideredvalidunlessthevehiclemetthequalitycontrolinspectionrequirementsasdescribedinSection10.1.1Thistestmethodcoversavehicletestprocedureforevaluationofintakevalvedepositformationofunleadedspark-ignitionenginefuels.Thistestmethodusesa1985modelBMW318ivehicle.Mileageisaccumulatedfollowingaspecifieddrivingscheduleoneitherpublicroadortesttrack.ThistestmethodisadaptedfromtheoriginalBMWofNorthAmerica/SouthwestResearchInstituteIntakeValveDeposittestandmaintainsasmuchcommonalityaspossiblewiththeoriginaltest.ChassisdynamometersshallnotbeusedforthistestprocedureastheBMWNA/SwRIIVDTestwasnotintendedtobeapplicabletochassisdynamometersandnocorrelationbetweenroadoperationandchassisdynamometershasbeenestablished.Note18212;IfthereisanydoubtastothelatesteditionofTestMethodD5500,contactASTMInternational.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Thevaluesinparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Specificstatementsonhazardsaregiventhroughoutthistestmethod.
